Hole Patching in Wilmington NC

Hole patching is deceptively simple. A bad patch shows from across the room forever; a good patch disappears completely. Our crews patch dozens of holes a week across Wilmington and have the technique, tools, and materials to make every patch vanish.

What Kind of Hole Do You Have?

Holes under 2 inches (nails, anchors, small screws) get a quick fiberglass mesh patch and two coats of lightweight compound. Holes from 2–6 inches (doorknobs, fists, kicked-in spots) get a backing block and a cut-in drywall plug, then taped and floated. Holes over 6 inches require cutting back to the studs, installing a full piece of new drywall, taping the seams on all four sides, and texture matching. We size the repair to the damage — no overkill, no shortcuts.

Texture and Paint Matching

Most failed DIY patches are flat enough — they fail at the texture step. We carry hopper guns, knockdown blades, splatter brushes, and texture cans in every truck, and our finishers train on each common Wilmington texture. After we match the texture we prime the patch so it absorbs paint at the same rate as the surrounding wall.

When to Patch vs. Replace

If you have one hole, patch it. If you have five holes in a 4×4 foot area, it's often faster and cheaper to cut out the whole section and replace it with a new piece of drywall. We'll tell you honestly which approach makes sense for your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you patch a hole today?+

For small to medium holes, often yes. Call us in the morning and we can usually get a crew out by afternoon. Texture matching may require a second visit the next day if the compound needs to dry.

Will I see the patch after it's painted?+

Not if it's done correctly. We prime the patch and feather the surrounding area so light reflects evenly. Repainting the full wall is the only way to guarantee zero visible difference in high-light rooms.

Do you patch holes from removed wall anchors?+

Yes, this is one of our most common small jobs. We fill, sand, prime, and touch up paint.

What about holes in textured ceilings?+

Ceiling patches are harder than wall patches because of how light hits them, but we do them constantly. Popcorn, knockdown, and orange peel ceiling textures are all in our wheelhouse.

Can you patch a hole I tried to fix myself?+

Absolutely. We often redo failed DIY patches — usually we scrape off the high spots, re-tape if needed, and refloat with three feathered coats.
